Country Risk Services

Country Risk Services provides economic, political and commercial information and analysis on 132 countries. Specifically, we provide an assessment of those risks posed by country-wide factors on individual trading and investment decisions.

Our two main products are the Country Report, a 50-60 page annual report providing in-depth analysis of a specific country, and the more concise Country RiskLine. Country RiskLines on a 132 countries are posted to our website (www.dnbcountryrisk.com) each week and are published once a month in the International Risk & Payment Review.

The team is comprised of analysts, editors, production and sales staff, and is based in Marlow. Analysts typically have a postgraduate qualification in economics or political economy and specialise in the countries of a particular region.

Gaimin Nonyane
Job title: Senior Economist
Business function: Country Risk Services

I joined D&B as a Junior Economist in the Country Risk Services (CRS) department in February 2005 and was promoted to a Senior Economist in January 2007. My role is very exciting; it involves writing reports on the level of risk affecting the political, economic and commercial environments in a total of 12 countries – primarily in Africa, and assigning risk ratings to these countries. I am also responsible for managing specific projects including the forecast accuracy project, which aims to enhance the department’s risk analysis.

On striking feature about CRS is the culture of diversity within the department. It really doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your background, there is an opportunity for you to grow and utilise whatever skills you think might benefit the department. In addition, CRS offers economists one-to-one fortnight meetings and quarterly appraisals with their team leaders, both of which provide you with an opportunity to obtain relevant feedback about your performance - something which I find to be very useful. Also, the department has a culture of encouraging relevant inputs and country visits, as well as pursuing further studies. Since joining the department, I have paid a visit to one the countries in my portfolio and taken up a professional course on Capital Market Development and Regulation. Furthermore, I have been able to tap into other areas of interest, which includes developing my leadership skills by managing new starters during their three-month probationary period.

Other benefits of working here include the flexible working patterns, which allow you to balance work and leisure. For example, I can choose the hours I work and I am also able to work from home on a weekly basis. In addition, these are exciting times as the department is constantly evolving to achieve D&B’s 2010 goal of becoming the UK’s number one commercial data provider.
